Weapons and Armor

Anstarra uses full-contact boffer swords and arrows. You have three options for weapons at our events:

  1. Build a sword with a PVC core (instructions).
  2. Use an 'ultra-light' sword, such as from ActionFlex.
  3. Build a sword with a fiberglass core (instructions coming soon).
  4. Borrow one from us.

Fighter Points

Each character purchases Fighter Points (FP) that limit the weapon or weapons (and/or shield and armor) that can be wielded at the same time. Each item has a Fighter Point value as follows:

Swinging Weapons (daggers / swords / axes / flails)

  • 1 Fighter Point per 3 inches of length beyond 18"
  • Plus 2 Fighter Points if the weapon is a light weapon
  • Sword grips may not exceed 12" in length

Thrust-Only Weapons (spears)

  • 1 Fighter Point per six inches of length beyond 18"
  • Spears must be at least 48" in length
  • Spears must be used with two hands

Pole-Arms

  • 1 Fighter Point per 3 inches of length beyond 27"
  • Plus 1 Fighter Point if the pole-arm has a butt-spike.
  • Pole-arms must be at least 48" in length
  • Pole-arms cannot exceed 72" in length
  • The balance point must be in the bladed half of the weapon.
  • Pole-arms must be used with two hands

Ranged Weapons (bows)

  • 10 Fighter Points
  • Bows may not exceed a 30-pound draw
  • Arrow heads must be covered with cloth

Shields (by perimeter)

  • 3 Fighter Points for a shield with a perimeter of 42" or less
  • 1 Fighter Point for each additional 6" of perimeter
  • The minimum cost for a shield is 3 Fighter Points
  • No shield may exceed an 84" perimeter (10 Fighter Points)
  • Subtract 1 FP if shield length that is more than 25% of its width.

Armor

  • 2 Fighter Points per body area:
    • Left Arm, Right Arm, Left Leg, Right Leg
  • 4 Fighter Points for the torso:
    • (Torso counts as two body areas)
  • For armor heavier than 8 pounds, subtract 1 Fighter Point.
  • Subtract 1 Fighter Point for each additional 8 pounds.
  • Armor cost cannot fall below 1 Fighter Point per body area.

Other Weapon Rules

  • Anstarra does not allow thrown weapons
  • Weapons longer than 48" must be used with two hands
